Kimberly Burns is a corporate partner, Vancouver M&A lead and member of the Dentons Canada Region Board. She is committed to simplifying legal issues for clients while creating value and competitive edge, helping clients successfully navigate legal complexity with optimal business results. Kimberly regularly asks, ‘how can we make the law work for us?’ rather than taking a traditional approach to advising clients. Clients say that Kimberly is approachable and easy to work with, while being tenacious in achieving their business goals.
Kimberly’s practice is focused on three key areas:
- Transactions: Advising clients of all sizes across a range of industries on public and private mergers and acquisitions,
- Corporate counsel advisory: Acting as an external Canadian general counsel to operating businesses by facilitating advice across the gamut of legal and business issues in Canada, and
- Governance: Providing sophisticated corporate governance and board related advice to support ongoing compliance and risk management, as well as to resolve conflict in-bet-the-farm situations.
These three areas are both complementary and synergistic. Her deep knowledge of all aspects of business operations and corporate governance makes her an informed and sophisticated deals lawyer. She balances the ebb and flow of transactional work with ongoing strategic advice for the executive teams of global and Canadian businesses, creating value through building relationships and connecting people. Kimberly is well-suited to support family offices and mid-to-large cap businesses who need someone who can field all of the issues these organizations encounter. As a member of the Dentons Canada Region Board and its Governance Committee, Kimberly has direct experience with the management and supervision of a complicated business model governing a Canadian partnership within a global business. This practical board-level perspective provides depth to her advice on governance, risk management and strategic decision-making.
