President & CEO, Fresh Direct Produce

Davis has been involved in the produce industry for almost 30 years. Davis learned various parts of the business in logistics, global sourcing, sales, business development, and was the Director of Sales & Marketing when he left his former company in 2002. After the owners retired and sold their business in 2001, Davis started his own consulting business and explored future ventures. With a vision of building an innovative produce company, Davis and his two partners, Albert Lum, and the late Kam Chiu Lee, founded Fresh Direct Produce in 2003. The company has since grown rapidly for the past 18 years and has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies since 2011. In 2018, Davis and his team brought in a private equity partner HKW capital to help the company scale and grow. Within two years, they have successfully acquired three companies Emperor Specialty Foods, Islands West Produce and Mike and Mike’s Organics. In August 2021, HKW exited the investment and FDP brought in another private equity partner PNC Riverarch Capital to continue with its growth and expansion plan across Canada and into the U.S.

Davis’s business acumen and contributions to the industry has led to many professional awards: Produce Business and Business In Vancouver’s Forty under Forty, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, The BC Ethno Business Award, Packer 25, and The Produce Person of the year for the BC Produce Marketing Association.

Davis is committed to the development of the produce industry. He is the immediate Past Chair and on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA). He has been a board member on the CPMA since 2011. He was a member and a Past Chair of the Audit Committee for the Produce Marketing Association (PMA). Davis had also served as a director at the BC Food Processing Association (now BC Food and Beverage) for a few years. Through Fresh Direct and its Foundation, Davis and his team has been actively supporting many non-profit organizations with healthy nutritious fresh produce. Davis holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, an MBA from Queen’s University, and the CPA, CMA designation.
