Murray Toews

CEO, Bonnetts Energy

Toews graduated from Beaverlodge Regional in 1985 before completing his Business Degree at Red Deer College (RDC) in 1990. Beyond providing a practical education, RDC is where he fostered his passion for hockey as a member of the RDC Kings, where he played for Mike Babcock (the current head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs) and Bill Peters (the current head coach of the Calgary Flames).

Mr. Toews brings over 20 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, including more than 16 years with Bonnetts. His first role at Bonnetts was a shop hand, before going on to serve in other positions such as wireline operator, field sales, dispatch manager and general manager when the corporation was known as Bonnetts Wireline Services Ltd.

Mr. Toews became a shareholder at Bonnetts in 1994 and served as General Manager until 1998, at which time he and three partners purchased Bonnetts from company founder Gerald Bonnett. Mr. Toews successfully spearheaded the evolution of Bonnetts, initially through its IPO as an income trust (2005), a conversion of the trust to a corporation (2011), and ultimately returning Bonnetts to its roots as a private corporation in November 2013 with Mill City Capital a private equity partner.

Mr. Toews vision has guided Bonnetts through substantial growth, expanding a trusted slickline service group to the multifaceted service company it is today.
