As Vice President, Business Advisory & Succession Planning, Todd Coleman advises high net worth private business owners in transition with strategic succession planning solutions. He provides specialized knowledge to support his colleagues at BMO Private Banking and BMO Nesbitt Burns and their clients across Western Canada, complementing BMO’s holistic wealth management offering.

With a foundation in corporate finance, strong analytical skills, and a broad industry network, Todd has a comprehensive understanding of the unique financial and personal complexities faced by a diverse group of entrepreneurs and affluent families. Drawing on his own valuable experience as President of a family-owned enterprise also informs his ability to help clients successfully manage the inherent challenges of ownership.

Using a customized, value-add approach, Todd assists BMO’s clients through what is often the largest transaction of their lives, collaborating closely to explore their needs – whether it’s business valuation, reviewing best practices, wealth transfer or M&A advice. As a trusted partner, he’s passionate about coaching clients through the duration of their transition – from initial negotiation strategies to the eventual sale of the business to a third party or management team, or handing the reigns over to the next generation.

Prior to joining BMO Private Banking in 2010, Todd was a Vice President at PricewaterhouseCoopers Corporate Finance. He has acted as an advisor to mid-market companies on mergers and acquisitions transactions across a wide variety of industries. In addition, Todd previously served as the President of a family-owned distribution company operating in the sporting goods industry for five years.

Todd has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alberta. He is also a Chartered Professional Accountant and has earned the Family Enterprise Advisor designation from the Institute of Family Enterprise Advisors. He currently serves as President of the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise (CAFE), Calgary Chapter, and he has delivered workshops on family business topics at regional and national events for CAFE.
