Robert is the National Leader of Corporate Finance, the Global Co-Leader of Debt & Capital Advisory and is also on the Global Executive team for Corporate Finance. The National Corporate Finance business has over 75 professionals split between M&A and Debt & Capital Advisory.  M&A is focused on sell side and buy side advisory services while Debt & Capital Advisory is focused on providing independent advice on financing options analysis and the sourcing of senior debt, junior debt and equity capital for private and public companies as well as providing issuers with independent market based assistance in negotiations with capital providers.

Robert has 20 years of investing experience and another 11 years of advisory experience. He has directly acquired or invested equity of approximately $1.5 billion in 70 companies in a variety of industries and helped advise dozens of corporates, government bodies and real estate companies with respect to buy side and sell side opportunities and capital raising. Throughout his career, he has raised, refinanced and restructured debt financings totaling over $10 billion in areas such as high yield bonds, private placements, project financings, MBO’s, LBO’s, growth acquisitions, PIPE’s, recaps, shareholder disputes, distressed financings, DIP’s, etc. Robert has also provided lead advisory support on the go private of 5 public companies ranging in size from market caps of $100 million to a $1.2 billion go private. Robert has sat on the Board of over 30 companies including acting as Chairman of 2 publicly listed businesses. Robert has also played the role of expert witness in an International Court of Tribunals in London, England and been an expert witness in several court cases involving corporate finance issues.

Prior to joining Deloitte in 2009 as a direct admit Partner, Robert spent 20 years split between Goldman Sachs and a merchant banking group. At Goldman, he helped found and lead its on balance sheet investing business for Canada where he invested senior debt, mezzanine and 2nd lien debt, as well as minority equity and control equity into North American public and private businesses. Previously, Robert was a founding partner of a merchant banking group where he raised three pooled private equity funds and used them to acquire mid market companies in a variety of industries. He also ran one of the leading private placement businesses in Canada targeting Canadian and US based life companies for Canadian issuers of long term capital.

In his early 20’s, Robert was a world ranked amateur boxer.
