Matt Macdonald is the Managing Director & Head of the National Client Group outside of Quebec and the Vice-President of Commercial and Private Banking in Ontario. 

Matt joined National Bank in September 2019 with a mandate to strategically build and grow National Bank’s market share and presence outside of Quebec.  He leads a fully integrated team of Lending, M&A/Investment Banking, Private Banking & Wealth, Cash Management and Risk Management Solution professionals servicing small & medium enterprises as well as large private and small public companies.

Matt is a dynamic leader with a track record of building high performance teams. His integrated market and team build out represented an important milestone for National Bank’s strategy to expand outside Quebec. His teams have produced tremendous growth driven by an exceptional client focused sales culture and a people first strategy focused on attracting high quality, experienced and motivated team members with a shared vision.

Prior to joining National Bank, Matt worked at Scotiabank where he honed his leadership, business development and credit skills through strategic positions in credit, sales, strategy and team management.  Prior to Scotiabank, Matt worked at Ernst & Young.

Matt holds CPA, CA & CFA designations as well as a Master’s and BCOM from Queen’s University and is actively involved in his community.
