Having successfully started, operated, and sold various businesses, has led Anne to her current roles are as an advisor for small to medium size family and non-family business owners. Anne provides business owners with key insights at to what attributes create a valuable business, helping them envision, strategize, plan, and implement key areas of priority, with the ultimate goal of a successful business transition. She also advises and facilitates discussion and support for families when the complexities of Family, Ownership and Business intersect.
Anne’s love of business comes naturally, growing up in an entrepreneurial environment which was the breeding ground for her drive, creativity, curiosity, and persistence. Her family’s primary business interests were architecture, real estate, and an airline. This early training paired with her leadership on many sports teams honed her skills of focus, integrity, competitiveness, and pursuit of excellence. These skills combined with her optimism and entrepreneurial spirit led Anne to chairing many committees as well as to start, build and operate several small successful businesses.
Her lived experience has covered most of life’s difficulties – her father & mentor passed away when she was thirty-one with two very young children, resulting in early learnings about succession and preparedness. Her divorce a few years later, meant bringing up their 2- and 4-year-old 90% of the time, requiring her to find a way to support herself and her children, and build for their future. With determination and tenacity, Anne launched her own marketing firm from her basement. Over the ensuing 16 years she bought a competitor’s business and grew her firm to be in the top 5% of businesses in her industry. In mid 2015, her largest competitor offered to buy her company, with the purchase closing in January 2016. Since then, she has continued to pursue her education by completing the Institute of Corporate Director’s Not for profit designation (ICD.NFP), Family Enterprise Advising designation (FEA) and Certified Value Builder (CVB) designation while working for two different firms specializing in these areas of expertise. In late 2021, Anne launched her own advisory firm, Junction Point Inc., and oversees a real estate holding company.
Anne is an active community volunteer, currently a Governor of Brentwood College School, a member of Committee of Management at the Ranchmen’s Club, past-President of the Calgary Polo Club and member of the Figure 8 Group, a group of businesspeople who have raised money hosting events for charities including The Children’s Cottage & The Centre for Child & Adolescent Mental Health, Anne also Volunteers with Family Enterprise Canada as an FEC Ambassador.
