Joe, like many senior and executive Retailers in Canada today, started out his retail career as a Management Trainee at K Mart in Ontario. K Mart provided an excellent, overall training program and Joe learned every aspect from in-store marketing to merchandise allocation. He also learned that he had a real passion for selling and working with people. During his 12 years at K Mart Joe advanced from Management Trainee to Store Manager, Division Store Manager, Merchandise Manager to Buyer. When K Mart bought Bargain Harold’s Joe was made transferred to that division as a Retail Consultant. These were exciting times as Joe helped to open 106 stores within 3 years! Due to his success with Bargain Harold’s K Mart promoted Joe to General Manager of both Bargain Harold’s and the Kresge division. In 1990 Joe was again promoted to Executive Vice President of Bargain Harold’s – which had grown to a chain of 161 stores with over 4000 employees.

With this experience in off-price merchandise, buying, store operations and marketing Joe left the K Mart chain to become the President of Army and Navy Department Stores. Joe brought Army and Navy to a new level of efficiency and service, which focused on maintaining their brand and place in the market. Joe then moved on to the fashion end of retail taking on the role of Vice President for Superstar Group Ltd. A fashion apparel and footwear retail chain with 64 locations across Canada.

In 2001 Joe struck out on his own creating Dollar Giant – a dollar store chain that offers selection, quality and service across Canada. The Dollar Giant motto/brand is simple “Nothing Over A Dollar” with stores ranging from 10,000 to 23,000 sq feet the assortment Joe has created is simply amazing. Joe credits his success in the retail business and Dollar Giant with his passion for working with his employees, vendors and customers. “It’s all about the people!”
